City and Guilds Qualifications & General bookbinding 5 day courses
City and Guilds Qualifications & General bookbinding 5 day courses
This 5 day course is for those studying all aspects of City and Guilds as well as those with a general interest in bookbinding to come and enjoy, create, learn and work towards your goal.
All levels involve self directed learning as well as in-house. It requires time and patience to build up skill. Allow 30 hours for Level 1 but allow more if you can, remembering you are on a journey with lots of delights on the way to be savoured.
Level 1 - 118 - Making pamphlet and multi-section case bindings, using a variety of sewing structures, endpapers and cover materials. Students are required to make samples and journals, and compile research and other evidence for subsequent assessment. A presentation piece will be required, which can be a chosen favourite for being the best made so far, or a specially-designed book.
Level 1 - 119 - making different styles of photo albums using a variety of sewing structures and guards, endpapers and cover materials, and making and covering a slip case. Students are required to make samples of albums, slipcases, and compile research and other evidence for subsequent assessment.
Level 3 is part self directed and part taught and is a bit like an apprenticeship system and can be discussed on completion of the above two levels.
